Pontiac, Michigan is a community in the heart of Oakland County that is on the rebound. Originally settled by Europeans in 1818 and named after Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa tribe, the city has a rich history dating back over 200 years. Pontiac became the county seat for Oakland County in 1820, officially becoming a village in 1837 and incorporating as a city in 1861.

For much of the 20th century, Pontiac was known for its automobile plants, many of which have since closed. The city also hosted Super Bowl XVI in 1982 at the now-demolished Pontiac Silverdome.

Despite its industrial past, Pontiac is now undergoing revitalization efforts. The Clinton River runs underneath part of downtown Pontiac, and efforts are being made to uncover and restore this natural waterway.
