Some computers that were not turned on during a routine software update by cybersecurity program CrowdStrike seem to have avoided an issue caused by a software bug that conflicted with Windows operating systems. The company’s CEO, George Kurtz, acknowledged the error and stated that while some computers would be fixed automatically, others would require manual intervention. The fix was issued early Friday, requiring affected computers to download another update to resolve the issue, some of which were able to do so automatically. Many companies and services affected by the glitch reported being back online by Friday morning, although some systems have not been able to load the update and may require manual intervention by IT workers to resolve the issue. Kurtz noted that some systems may take longer to recover, but the company is working with affected customers to resolve the problem. Overall, the issue was caused by a software bug in a routine update and affected systems that were unable to download the fix automatically.
