Online gambling site BetMGM experienced issues as well. U.S. Customs and Border Protection faced delays at the Mexico border due to the outage.
Following the outage, CrowdStrike shares plummeted by 11%, and Microsoft also reported issues with its services. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan criticized tech consolidation, emphasizing the risks of relying too heavily on a few vendors. Senator Eric Schmitt called for a briefing on the IT issue causing disruptions, emphasizing the importance of robust cybersecurity practices.
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz advised caution regarding impostors exploiting the situation and mobilized employees to assist affected customers. The outage also impacted hospital operations, with surgeries being delayed and causing anxiety for patients like Gary Baulos whose open-heart surgery was canceled.
