‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ surprises box office with $110 million debut weekend.

After a 36-year wait, the long-awaited sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has finally hit theaters and made an impressive $110 million in its premiere weekend. Starring Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux, the film is the third-best opening weekend of the year, only behind “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” It is also the second-highest grossing September movie of all time, only behind 2017’s “It.” The original “Beetlejuice” film only earned $8 million in its opening weekend in 1988, but went on to become a cult classic and make $77 million domestically. The strong opening weekend of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” marks the beginning of the fall movie season after a slow August, where newer films struggled at the box office. The success of the sequel has injected some excitement back into the box office after a relatively quiet summer season.
