Apple and Michigan State University have joined forces to open the Apple Manufacturing Academy to assist small and medium-sized businesses in enhancing their operations. The program, set to open in Detroit this summer, will offer both in-person and online courses focused on project management, manufacturing process optimization, and vocational and leadership skills. Additionally, businesses will receive consultations from Apple engineers and MSU experts on implementing artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing techniques.
This collaboration marks the second program between Apple and MSU, following the success of the Apple Developer Academy in Detroit, which has seen roughly 200 graduates annually since its opening in 2021. The Apple Manufacturing Academy is part of Apple’s U.S. advanced manufacturing fund, which the tech giant recently pledged to double to a $10 billion investment. This fund aims to support advanced manufacturing and skills development nationwide.
As part of its commitment to invest in the U.S., Apple plans to spend over $500 billion and create 20,000 jobs in the country over the next four years. This initiative includes opening a new server facility in Houston next year. The announcement of the manufacturing training program coincided with President Donald Trump’s tariffs on various countries, affecting Apple’s supply chain, particularly in China where many components are produced. However, Apple remains steadfast in its commitment to investing in U.S. manufacturing and job creation.
