Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, is unable to run again due to term limits.
On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan are among those seeking the nomination in the August primary. The race for Michigan governor is shaping up to be competitive with a diverse group of candidates vying for the position.
