Softball Team Travels to Bowling Green for Weekend Games

The Western Michigan softball team is preparing for a weekend series against Bowling Green, with a game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday. Last week, the Broncos split a doubleheader with Buffalo, dropping the first game but bouncing back to win the next two. Standout performances included a career-high eight-strikeout game from pitcher Kaylee Salyer and key hits from players like Payton Kelly and Analeez Niles.

Bowling Green currently holds a 5-8 record in MAC play and is led by redshirt freshman infielder Addie Martin, who boasts a .364 batting average with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs. The Falcons will be looking to improve upon their recent series against Northern Illinois, where they dropped two out of three games.

Senior outfielder Payton Kelly had a standout performance in last weekend’s games, bouncing back from a hitless outing in the series opener to go 2-for-3 in the second game and 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the third game. The Broncos will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matchups against Ball State and Akron.

Western Michigan will return home next Tuesday for a doubleheader against Ball State before hitting the road for a series against Akron. The team is looking to build upon their recent success and continue their push towards a strong finish in MAC play. Fans can catch Friday’s game against Bowling Green live on ESPN+.
