Alex Bump of Western Michigan University has been honored as a First Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Bump, a native of Prior Lake, Minnesota, is the 19th player in program history to receive this prestigious recognition and the first since 2022-23. He has had an outstanding season, entering the national championship game with 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists. Bump was also named the NCHC’s Forward of the Year and the MVP of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Tournament.
Bump has consistently performed well throughout the season, with at least one point in 28 games and 15 multi-point efforts. If he scores three more points, he will be the first Bronco to reach 50 points in a season since 2004-05. He has been instrumental in leading Western Michigan to several program firsts this season, including winning the Penrose Cup, the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship, and advancing to the Frozen Four for the first time.
The Broncos recently defeated Denver in the NCAA Semifinals, advancing to the National Championship game where they will face off against Boston University. A win in this game would secure Western Michigan’s first-ever national title. The championship game is set to take place at 7:30 PM ET on Saturday. Bump’s exceptional performance on the ice has been crucial in the team’s success this season, and his All-American status is well deserved.
