Broncos lose early lead to Toledo

In a close match on Saturday, the Western Michigan baseball team initially took the lead with two home runs but ultimately fell short to Toledo, losing 8-5. Avery Thielman and Lucas Rick hit homers to give WMU an early advantage, but Toledo’s five-run sixth inning turned the game around. Despite efforts from Zach Vriesenga on the mound and Thielman’s two-out RBI single, Toledo managed to pull ahead. Vriesenga retired nine batters in a row, but WMU couldn’t maintain their lead as Toledo surged in the sixth inning. The Broncos were unable to score for the rest of the game, leading to their defeat. With this loss, Western Michigan’s record stands at 10-26, 6-12 in the MAC, while Toledo has a record of 16-22, 10-11. The team will now prepare for a three-game series against Northern Illinois, starting on Friday with a 4 pm first pitch. Despite the setback against Toledo, the Western Michigan baseball team is focused and determined to bounce back in their upcoming matches. Fans can look forward to an exciting game at Northern Illinois as the Broncos aim to put on a strong performance and secure a victory on the road.
