Alex Birch, a dedicated volunteer with the Sunrise Side Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, is working to preserve the local ducks and waterfowl population in Northeast Michigan. Birch, who grew up hunting and fishing in Michigan, is passionate about community involvement in conservation efforts. The chapter takes a hands-on approach to conservation, recently installing “hen houses” at Island Park in Alpena to provide safe nesting spaces for waterfowl. Birch emphasizes that donations to the chapter go directly back into the community and local projects.
In addition to conservation efforts, Birch and the chapter focus on educating local youth about waterfowl hunting and conservation. They partner with organizations like Huron Pines and the Sportsmen Club to enhance resources for the waterfowl population. Birch hopes to expand the chapter’s reach by building connections within the community and increasing volunteer participation.
Outside of his volunteer work, Birch works as a field technician and has a passion for working with people with disabilities. He envisions a future where his grandchildren can enjoy Michigan’s natural beauty, just as he has. Birch’s commitment to conservation, community involvement, and education showcases the dedication of the Sunrise Side Chapter of Delta Waterfowl and their mission to protect the local waterfowl populations for future generations.
