The Athletics Program at Michigan State


Michigan State junior men’s golfer Caleb Bond led the Spartans to a tied for third-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Bond shot a 9-under par 204, finishing in second place overall. The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 10-under par 842, tying with Illinois for third place.

Marquette took the top spot with a 16-under par 836, followed by host Purdue in second at 14-under par 838. Bond’s score of 204 was the sixth-lowest in program history and tied a career-best for him. Freshman Julian Menser also had a strong performance, tying for 18th place at 1-under par 212.

Despite a rough final round, freshman Drew Miller tied for 53rd place at 5-over par 218. Michigan State sophomore Lorenzo Pinili finished tied for 43rd place at 3-over par 216, and sophomore Lucas Acevedo ended in 56th place at 6-over par 219.

The Spartans’ finish at the Boilermaker Invitational sets them up for postseason play at the Big Ten Championships in Baltimore, Md. next weekend. The team will look to build on their solid performance and compete for a conference title at the Baltimore Country Club from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27. Bond’s impressive showing at the tournament will surely give the team confidence as they head into the championship.
