Athletics at Marquette University


YPSILANTI, Michigan – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team ended their regular season with a strong 18-14 road win against Eastern Michigan. Tess Osburn and Meg Bireley led the way with a total of 11 goals. Despite initially falling behind, Marquette mounted a comeback to lead by six goals at halftime. Eastern Michigan fought back in the third quarter with a 4-0 run, but Marquette responded with key goals from Sarah Beth Burns and Bireley to secure the win.

This victory marks Marquette’s third 10-win season in program history. Bireley’s performance also stood out, as she tallied five points in the game to bring her season total to 79 points, the second-most in program history. Additionally, Bireley set a new program record for shots on goal in a season with 120 and also owns the most shots in a season with 170.

Goalie Brynna Nixon reached a career milestone with her 30th win, becoming the first goalie in program history to achieve this mark. Hanna Bodner also had a standout performance with a career-high eight draw controls.

With this win, Marquette secures the No. 4 seed in the upcoming 2025 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. The team will await the outcome of the Georgetown vs. UConn game on Saturday to determine their next opponent.
