Bike Rodeo at RiverTown Crossing Promises Fun and Learning for Kids
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — RiverTown Crossing in Grandville is set to host this year’s Bike Rodeo, a free community event designed to promote bike safety and celebrate the arrival of spring. Scheduled for Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, the event is part of the shopping center’s BLOOM campaign, which aims to foster sustainable practices.
Children can look forward to engaging in a skills course tailored to enhance their bike riding techniques. Local law enforcement agencies will be on hand to teach vital bike safety tips, while Dick’s Sporting Goods will provide bike repairs, and the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital will conduct helmet checks.
Melissa Brink, general manager at RiverTown Crossings, emphasized the importance of such events for community engagement, stating, “It’s important for us to do these kinds of free community events… and show support for our local police departments. They do a lot for us, and have been a great community partner.”
Last year’s inaugural event attracted around 125 children aged 10 and younger, with a focus on newer riders. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bikes, although limited loaner bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This year’s activities will also include exciting giveaways like wildflower seed packets, ice cream from Country Fresh, and bike raffles, along with various fun items from RiverTown Crossings’ tenants. Several law enforcement agencies, including the Grandville Police Department and the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, will participate, bringing an interactive experience for the kids.
“Kids look forward to interacting with police departments and the opportunity to win a new bike,” said Brink. The event promises a fun-filled start to the spring and summer season for families in the Grand Rapids area.
