Hundreds Rally Against Trump’s Canada Policies at Three Michigan Border Bridges

Press Release: Hundreds Rally at U.S.-Canada Bridges to Protest Trump’s Policies

Port Huron, MI – April 26: A chilly Saturday afternoon saw hundreds of Michiganders unite along the shores of Lake Huron to express their dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s international policies impacting relations with Canada. The protests took place at three crucial border crossings: the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, and the International Bridge connecting Sault Ste. Marie.

The gatherings were sparked by Trump’s tariffs, which have strained trade relations with Canada, notably affecting Michigan-based industries. Protesters, many of whom traveled long distances to participate, held signs and flags representing both nations, singing “O’ Canada” in solidarity with their Canadian counterparts.

Among the speakers was Martha Fitzgerald, a dual citizen from Marquette, who emphasized the importance of community and collective frustration in addressing these issues. “You come together out of frustration and angst, but you end up building a positive force,” she noted.

The protests coincided with Canadian elections, with experts suggesting the trade dispute may influence voting patterns. Recent months have seen a growing rift, as concerns mount over how Trump’s policies discourage Canadian tourism and trade with the U.S.

In Detroit, around 200 protesters voiced similar sentiments, with labor representatives expressing the dire implications of tariffs on the automotive industry, highlighting the risk of economic devastation in southern Ontario.

As tensions continue to rise, the rallies served as a clear message from both nations: the people stand united against policies perceived as harmful, advocating for stronger, friendlier relations between the neighbors.
