Eastern Michigan University Launches Inaugural Ford Lake Cup Regatta
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) rowing team is set to host its inaugural Ford Lake Cup regatta on Saturday, April 26, 2024. The event will unfold at the EMU Rowing Course at Ford Lake, with heats beginning at 9 a.m. and finals commencing at 1 p.m. Spectators are invited to attend at Ford Lake Park (9075 S Huron River Dr., Ypsilanti, MI), with a $10 parking fee in effect.
This highly anticipated regatta will feature teams from institutions including Bucknell University, the University of Delaware, Duquesne University, and West Virginia University, among others. This marks the largest event ever hosted by EMU, coinciding with the establishment of their new rowing course, designed to enhance the student-athlete experience.
In conjunction with the event, EMU will distribute free T-shirts to fans while supplies last. Attendees will also have access to live results via a QR code on-site.
Recent performances have fueled excitement for the regatta. The Eagles’ first varsity eight (1V8+) recently finished a race in 7:00.1, just shy of breaking the seven-minute mark, showcasing their competitiveness against teams such as Michigan State University.
Looking ahead, the Eastern Michigan rowing team is gearing up for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships on May 16-17, which will be their last participation before the Mid-American Conference (MAC) officially sponsors women’s rowing starting in the 2025-26 academic year.
Head Coach Kemp Savage and student-athlete Lily Wilhelm recently achieved international recognition, clinching a gold medal for the United States at the World University Championships. This victory reflects EMU’s commitment to excellence both on and off the water, as evidenced by their recognition of 18 student-athletes as National Scholar-Athletes.
