Niles Woman Hospitalized After Howard Township Crash
HOWARD TWP., MI — A two-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon sent a 21-year-old woman from Niles to the hospital. The incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. at the intersection of Yankee Street and Huntly Road, according to a statement released by Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach.
Authorities reported that Lacie Crocker was traveling westbound on Yankee Street when Thomas Shultz, 69, also from Niles, failed to yield the right-of-way. Shultz was attempting to turn left onto Yankee Street from Huntly Road at the time of the collision.
Crocker was promptly taken to Lakeland Niles Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Fortunately, both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, and initial investigations indicate that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the incident.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies received assistance at the scene from the Howard Township Fire Department and the Southwest Michigan Community Ambulance Service.
The authorities urge all drivers to remain vigilant at intersections and adhere to traffic signals to prevent accidents. Further updates regarding the investigation will be released as they become available.
