Eastern Michigan University Shine at Track Meets
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University’s men’s track and field team had an outstanding performance over the weekend at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet and Hillsdale College Tune-Up, showcasing impressive personal and season-best achievements.
Sophomore Lachlan Cornelius highlighted the GVSU meet, clinching victory in the 800m with a time of 1:48.38, the conference’s best for the second consecutive week. This mark ranks sixth in the Great Lakes Region and is the eighth-best in EMU history. Teammate Kian Wiles also excelled, finishing second in a career-best 1:48.77.
The Eagles saw notable performances across events, accumulating six first-place finishes, 19 top-three finishes, and 22 personal-best times across both meets. AJ Hawkins excelled in the 1500m at Hillsdale, winning with a personal-best of 4:00.62. In the throws, Jake McEachern marked his collegiate win in the hammer throw with an impressive 60.62m throw.
On the women’s side, Erica King won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 41.17m, ranking her fourth in the MAC. Freshman Shamoya Clemetson shone with three personal-best performances, while Nikol Antoniadi raced to a strong finish in the 100m hurdles.
Both teams are set to continue their momentum next weekend at the Jesse Owens Invitational and the Duke Twilight Meet, aiming for more qualifiers and victories.
