The 2025 London Marathon showcased a historic turnout with 56,000 runners, including celebrities, MPs, and even a duo dressed as a slinky dog, all sprinting through the capital’s iconic streets. Organizers had high hopes for record-breaking participation, and they were not disappointed as many entrants bested their personal records.
Runners faced sweltering summer conditions, which presented challenges for many. Amie Begin, who completed the marathon in 4 hours and 40 minutes, celebrated achieving her Six Star medal after completing all six world majors. The 33-year-old raised £2,500 for the charity PHAB. Other participants echoed her sentiments, with Lindsey Burwell noting that while she didn’t beat her personal best due to the heat, the camaraderie and support were unforgettable.
Among poignant moments was David Stancombe, who ran in memory of his daughter Elsie, tragically murdered last year. Father Sergio Aguiar completed the race to honor his daughter Alice, emphasizing the impact of their legacy on community projects.
Celebrity involvement was prominent, with Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts, who has survived cancer treatments, taking strides toward personal milestones. Comedian Joel Dommett had to withdraw due to injury but maintained a positive outlook despite his ambitious goals.
The festive spirit was evident with creative costumes throughout the race, including participants dressed as a pizza and a giant yellow bird. Additionally, an emotional atmosphere surrounded the course as supporters cheered on the runners, highlighting the marathon’s importance in fundraising for various causes.
In elite competition, Sebastian Sawe clinched the men’s title, while Tigst Assefa won the women’s race, showcasing incredible athletic prowess amidst a record-setting event.
