Michigan State Football Bolsters Secondary with New Transfer Commitments
As spring practice concluded, Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith hinted at the potential for roster enhancements from the transfer portal, specifically targeting defensive backs. The Spartans recently secured commitments from two promising transfers: cornerback Anthony Pinnace and safety Tracy Revels.
Pinnace, a 6-foot, 170-pound athlete, announced his commitment via social media on Saturday night. The former JUCO All-American cornerback hails from Ypsilanti and had a standout high school career as an all-state quarterback at Ann Arbor Huron High School. After signing with Washington State, he played for Iowa Western Community College before spending last spring at UTSA.
Following closely behind, Revels, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound redshirt freshman from Texas, confirmed his commitment on Sunday morning. He did not see game action during his true freshman season at Bowling Green in 2023 but showcased his potential last season with 40 tackles and one pass breakup over 12 games, including seven starts.
These new additions come as Michigan State has been actively seeking to strengthen its defensive backfield following the departure of nearly half a dozen players to the transfer portal. The Spartans previously welcomed EDGE Isaac Smith from Texas Tech on Wednesday, marking a significant influx of new talent.
With these strategic acquisitions, Michigan State is looking to reinforce its secondary and improve its overall team dynamics as they prepare for the upcoming season. The coaching staff’s proactive approach in utilizing the transfer portal illustrates a commitment to building a competitive roster capable of excelling in the challenging Big Ten landscape.
