Pittsburgh Steelers Select Cornerback Donte Kent in 2025 NFL Draft
In a strategic move during the 2025 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Central Michigan cornerback and return specialist Donte Kent with the 229th overall pick in the seventh round. Known for his versatility and agility, Kent will be a valuable addition to the Steelers’ roster.
Kent brings a wealth of experience to Pittsburgh, having played five seasons in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and appeared in 53 games. Over his collegiate career, he accumulated 234 tackles, six of which were for a loss, alongside 46 pass breakups and two interceptions. In his final season, Kent recorded 53 tackles and nine pass breakups, although he did not secure any interceptions.
The 23-year-old Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native also excelled in special teams, notably returning 16 punts for 217 yards and a touchdown in 2024. This touchdown came during Central Michigan’s opener against Central Connecticut, showcasing his potential as a dynamic playmaker.
Kent’s performance caught the attention of scouts, particularly his Pro Day metrics where he measured in at 5’10" and 187 pounds. He clocked an impressive 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash and showcased explosive leaping ability with a 38.5-inch vertical jump.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic rated Kent as the 43rd best cornerback in the draft, praising his skills in Cover 2 schemes and his ability to read plays. While his aggressiveness can lead to mistakes, Kent’s recovery speed and solid tackling make him an asset.
