Jury Selection Begins in Kim Kardashian Heist Trial in Paris

The trial regarding the $9 million jewelry robbery of Kim Kardashian began in Paris, where jurors were selected for proceedings against ten defendants. These individuals are charged in connection with the 2016 robbery, during which Kardashian was held at gunpoint while attending Paris Fashion Week. The robbers, who infiltrated her private apartment complex on bicycles and foot, have been dubbed “the grandpa robbers” by local media due to their ages, with some in their 60s and 70s.

Among the 10 defendants are Aomar Ait Khedache, 69, identified as the mastermind, and his son Harminy, 37, the alleged getaway driver. Other accused include Didier Dubreucq, 69, and Gary Madar, 35, the brother of Kardashian’s driver, who allegedly provided details about her whereabouts. Christiane Glotin, 78, is also among the accused, alleged to have played a role in planning the heist. Notably, Yunice Abbas, 72, admitted to participating in the robbery and wrote a book titled “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian,” detailing his experiences leading up to the crime.

The trial is significant, with potential sentences exceeding 20 years, mandating jury involvement. Notably, Kardashian herself is expected to testify on May 13. She has previously recounted the terrifying experience, expressing her fear for her life during the robbery and the panic of trying to contact emergency services in a foreign country. The proceedings will be closely monitored by journalists due to restrictions on television coverage in French courts.
