Eastern Michigan Baseball Falls to Bowling Green, Completes Series Sweep
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — In a tough outing, the Eastern Michigan University (EMU) baseball team suffered an 8-4 defeat against Bowling Green State University (BGSU) on April 27, concluding a three-game sweep in the Mid-American Conference. Despite a commendable performance from senior pitcher Tyler Kapa, who struck out seven and now leads the MAC with 66 strikeouts, the Eagles struggled to capitalize offensively.
The game commenced with Eastern threatening early, but a double by Giano Zuccaro and a walk from Devan Zirwas yielded no runs. BGSU responded vigorously, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding further to their tally in the third and fourth, establishing a commanding 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, EMU found their footing as Cooper Vance’s double set the stage for a run scored by Logan Hugo, narrowing the deficit to 5-1. However, Bowling Green countered with two runs in the sixth, pushing the lead to 7-1. The Eagles rallied late, scoring two runs in the seventh, thanks to Ty Stecko’s timely hits but ultimately fell short.
The defeat dropped EMU’s record to 17-21, with a MAC standing of 9-12, while BGSU improved to 28-14 and 16-8 in the conference. Notable performances this week came from young talents like Stecko, who tallied multiple hits and runs batted in, extending his career-high season totals.
