Press Release: Job Cuts Impact Eight Michigan Companies Amid Closures
In April, eight Michigan companies announced plans to cut a total of 1,349 jobs, a development linked to plant closures and restructuring efforts. This follows the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which mandates at least 60 days of notice for significant layoffs.
Lippert Components Inc. is closing its Chesaning factory by July, affecting 159 jobs, with layoffs starting in April. The Indiana-based manufacturer committed to assisting employees in finding alternative positions at other U.S. facilities.

Union representative Israel Castro expressed disappointment over the closure and emphasized efforts to support affected workers in securing new employment or retirement.
Vibracoustic USA Inc., a global automotive component manufacturer, plans to lay off 18 employees at its Sandusky plant as part of a restructuring initiative. Specific resources for affected workers remain unannounced.
Additionally, Akasol, a German battery manufacturer acquired by BorgWarner, will close its electric vehicle battery plants in Hazel Park and Warren, impacting 188 jobs. The company is shifting production to South Carolina but indicated it would seek to minimize employee impact.
Flagstar Bank announced layoffs for 424 employees at its Troy location, set to occur between April 22 and May 9. This follows previous job cuts at the same facility and another location in Jackson.
LNW Gaming is closing its Farmington Hills facility, affecting 92 jobs, while Sherwood Food Distributors and McCann Advertising announced plans to lay off 255 and 60 employees, respectively, from their Detroit and Birmingham locations.
The companies’ WARN letters are publicly posted on the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s website.
