Youngstown State Women’s Tennis Team Set for NCAA Regional Showdown Against Michigan
The Youngstown State University (YSU) women’s tennis team is gearing up for an exciting matchup in the NCAA Regionals as they face third-seeded Michigan on Friday, May 2, at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor. The Penguins, boasting a strong 14-7 record, will look to harness the momentum from their recent Horizon League Championship victory, which also took place at the Wolverines’ home venue.
This marks YSU’s eighth appearance in the NCAA Regionals since 2014 and their third visit to Michigan in the last eight years. The Penguins previously faced the Wolverines in postseason matches in 2017 and 2023. Notably, the team’s current seniors, Lili Minich and Julia Marko, have experience from last year’s competition at Michigan, with Minich competing in the No. 2 singles slot and Marko in the No. 5 position.
The match against Michigan will commence at 1 p.m., immediately following the first contest of the day featuring Arizona State and Ole Miss at 10 a.m. The winners of these matches will advance to compete on Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m., with the victor earning a place in the next round of the tournament.
With a remarkable winning streak of seven consecutive matches behind them, the Penguins are poised to make a strong statement in the tournament. Fans and supporters are encouraged to tune in as YSU aims to continue its ascent in NCAA tennis, showcasing the talents of an exceptional team committed to excellence on and off the court.
