Ramona Hosts Family-Friendly Way Out West Weekend Rodeo
RAMONA, CA — The Way Out West Weekend, a celebration of the Western lifestyle, will take place on May 17 and 18 at the Fred Grand Arena within the Ramona Outdoor Community Center. This family-friendly event features a range of competitive equestrian activities, including barrel racing, pole bending, and team penning, alongside equine wellness presentations and a barbecue snack bar.
Event organizers Selena Roberts, Jeanne Malone, and Rachelle Laws have stated that a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Ramona Rodeo Foundation, which supports educational scholarships and local nonprofits. Admission to the event is free, and sponsors are welcome.
Kicking off the festivities, barrel racing will take place on May 17, with a jackpot of $1,500 available for competitors, along with various side pots tailored for different skill levels. Health and wellness clinics will be held throughout the weekend, featuring experts like Kimiko Tanaka and Kylie Wakefield, who will discuss innovative treatments for equines.
The inaugural Steve Tellam Memorial Team Penning event is scheduled for May 18, honoring the late cattleman and cowboy who significantly influenced the local rodeo community. Riders of all ages can participate, competing for top positions that advance to the Ramona Rodeo in August.
Vendors will showcase Western gear, and refreshments will be available courtesy of the Ramona Rodeo Foundation. "Our aim is to create a family-friendly event that supports and celebrates the Western lifestyle," said Malone.
