15 Road Closures Planned Across Michigan This Week

May Traffic Congestion Alert: Over 90 Road Projects Launch in Michigan

Michigan drivers should brace for increased traffic congestion as more than 90 road construction projects kick off between May 4 and May 10. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced various single and multi-lane road closures across numerous primary roads, significantly affecting the flow of traffic.

Notable closures include U.S. 131 in Allegan and Kalamazoo counties, I-75 in Oakland County, M-58 in Saginaw County, and U.S. 23 spanning Monroe and Washtenaw counties. Motorists traveling through these areas are urged to stay alert for detours and to adhere to posted signage in work zones.

Key projects include the two-lane closure of M-58 in Saginaw County starting May 5 for pavement markings associated with a $13 million reconstruction effort. Single-lane closures on M-46 and M-25 in Port Sanilac will continue through May 22 as crews microsurface and refinish the roads. Additionally, U.S. 10 in Lake County will undergo chip sealing starting Monday, requiring lane sharing in both directions.

In Delta County, M-35 will experience single-lane closures as crews prepare for a $1 million resurfacing. Meanwhile, daily intermittent lane closures on M-52 in Lenawee County will also take place as part of a larger $5.3 million project.

Other projects include routine inspections on the M-63 Blossomland Bridge, lane closures on U.S. 23 in Genesee County, and a full shutdown of U.S. 41 for four months beginning May 5. Drivers are encouraged to consult MDOT’s online map for a complete list of road projects and to plan travel times accordingly, keeping in mind these constructions are heavily dependent on weather conditions. Slow down and drive safely through work zones.
