Pilot Killed in Single-Engine Plane Crash in Simi Valley Neighborhood

A small, single-engine plane crashed in a residential area of Simi Valley, California, on Saturday, resulting in the death of the pilot, the sole occupant. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., with the aircraft crashing into the backyard of a home. Although aerial footage from NBC Los Angeles showed a body at the site, the connection to the crash remained unverified.

According to police, the plane struck two homes, leading to a fire; however, residents were able to evacuate without injuries. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and damage was reported, although specifics were not disclosed. The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed that no one on the ground was harmed.

The airplane involved in the crash was identified as a Van’s RV-10, a kit-built, four-seat single-engine plane. It had taken off from a small airport in Lancaster, located to the northeast, and was en route to Camarillo Airport, about 20 miles west, both of which are noncommercial airports.

The crash site was located in the Wood Ranch neighborhood, characterized by two-story homes with a median listing price of around $900,000. Witnesses observed smoke rising from a home’s rooftop while residents and first responders gathered nearby.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been tasked with conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
