Gobles Public Schools Launches $27 Million Renovation Project
VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI – Gobles Public Schools is poised to commence a significant renovation project this month, focusing on the district’s elementary school and the combined middle/high school. This $27 million initiative, funded by a bond approved by voters in November 2023, aims to enhance educational facilities without expanding the school’s footprint.
Superintendent Jim Wiseley announced that a section of the middle/high school, over 70 years old, will be demolished to make way for a new two-story addition. The renovations, which are scheduled to be completed by fall 2026, reflect community input, particularly regarding the need for clearer distinctions between middle and high school students. Following the construction, middle school students will occupy the top floor, while high school students will have access to the ground level.
“There’s a lot of anxiousness for what the construction is going to look like,” Wiseley remarked, adding that classes will continue in part of the building throughout the renovations. The bond funds will also facilitate improvements at Gobles Elementary School and include new classrooms, flooring, ceilings, and air conditioning across the district.
The project allocates approximately $17 million for the middle/high school renovations, with an additional $8-9 million earmarked for enhancements at the elementary school. The community’s commitment to educational advancements is evident, as local officials and residents eagerly anticipate the benefits of this extensive construction.
