Western Michigan Men’s Basketball Welcomes In-State Transfer Trey Lewis
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men’s basketball program has announced the signing of Trey Lewis, a promising in-state transfer from Purdue Fort Wayne. This marks Lewis as the seventh newcomer for the 2025-26 season, joining fellow transfers Jalen Griffith and Hudson Ward, as well as a strong cohort of incoming freshmen including Sharod Barnes, Brady Swartz, Camden Thompson, and Carson Vis.
Head coach Dwayne Stephens expressed his enthusiasm for the addition of Lewis to the Broncos lineup. “We are excited to add Trey to our program. He is a true two-way player who can defend and make shots at a high level,” Stephens stated. “Being from Michigan, we believe he will have an immediate impact on our program, both on and off the court.”
Originally hailing from Ferndale, Lewis returns to Michigan after a season with Purdue Fort Wayne, where he played all 32 games and averaged 4.7 points and 1.2 rebounds. Known for his shooting ability, the 6-6 Lewis hit 38.0 percent from three-point range and delivered double-digit performances in critical Horizon League road wins.
Before his time at Purdue Fort Wayne, Lewis spent two seasons with Loyola Chicago, where he redshirted his first year and appeared in ten games during his second season, showcasing his potential by scoring a season-high 10 points against Goshen.
A highly regarded player in high school, Lewis was a four-year varsity starter at Ferndale High School, leading the Eagles to multiple district championships and earning accolades such as First Team All-League and dreams of the Mr. Basketball title in Michigan.
With his return to Michigan, Lewis adds depth and skill to the Western Michigan roster as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
