Valparaiso Baseball Set for Nonconference Showdown Against Western Michigan

Valparaiso, IN – The Valparaiso University baseball team (8-34, 3-18 MVC) is gearing up to host Western Michigan (16-27, 11-13 MAC) this Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT for their final nonconference home game of the season at Emory G. Bauer Field. This matchup marks the conclusion of a home-and-home series that began last week in Kalamazoo.

The Beacons come off a challenging weekend, suffering a three-game sweep to UIC, where they struggled offensively, managing only one run in two of the games. Despite pitching efforts from Connor Lockwood, who logged eight innings with five strikeouts yet faced a tough 3-0 loss in the opener, Valpo’s lineup has been in a slump, resulting in being shut out in five of their last six conference games.

In contrast, Western Michigan enters the game riding a four-game winning streak, including a sweep of Central Michigan. The Broncos showcased strong offensive performances led by Tanner Mally, who boasts a .361 batting average this season.

Head Coach Brian Schmack, in his 12th season, has overseen significant growth, achieving 200 career wins. The Beacons look to bounce back against the Broncos, who lead the all-time series 36-16.

Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+, with Todd Ickow and Leo Staudacher providing commentary. For updates, follow @ValpoBaseball on X. As the Beacons prepare for the clash, hopes are high for a resurgence in their offensive production to close out the nonconference slate on a positive note.
