Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum Reopens in Bangor Township
BANGOR TWP, MI – The Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum in Bay County has reopened its doors for the season on May 3rd, inviting visitors to explore a unique collection of firehouse memorabilia and vintage toys. Founded by Jimmie Dobson, the museum aims to preserve the history of mid-Michigan’s fire service and now features one of the world’s largest assortments of toy trucks, including numerous first responder vehicles.
The extensive collection boasts over 60 firefighting apparatus dating back to 1854, showcasing everything from horse-drawn rigs to Model Ts, and modern units like the Bangor Township Telesquirt. In addition, the museum highlights regional fire and first responder artifacts from Bay City, the Saginaw River area, and Detroit.
Among its intriguing exhibits is a dedicated room for the Saginaw River Marine Historical Society, which features the history of Jupiter, a tanker that tragically caught fire and exploded in 1990.
Located at 3456 Patterson Road in Bangor Township, the museum is open weekends from noon to 4 p.m. from May through October. Visitors can arrange additional visits by calling ahead, and group tours are available upon request. Admission fees are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students aged 17 and under, while children aged 4 and under enter for free.
