Authorities in Louisiana have charged a second suspect, 34-year-old Rickey White, with second-degree murder in the death of television reporter Adan Manzano. Manzano, a 27-year-old reporter for Telemundo, was found dead on February 5 in a hotel room in Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans, while covering the Super Bowl. White’s co-defendant, Danette Colbert, was charged earlier with second-degree murder and theft, as she was seen on hotel security footage leaving Manzano’s room shortly before his death and later used his credit cards.
White was arrested in Florida in March on charges of robbery and fraud before being extradited to Louisiana, where Kenner police linked him to Colbert through their communications. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley noted that investigative efforts resulted in the new murder charge against White, although details were not disclosed.
White’s attorney, Kevin Boshea, expressed skepticism regarding the charges against his client, stating they lacked evidence to prove White was in New Orleans at the time of Manzano’s death. Boshea questioned the validity of the accusations, especially since no direct evidence was presented during a preliminary hearing.
An autopsy revealed Manzano died facedown on a pillow from asphyxiation due to a combination of alcohol and Xanax. Police confirmed that Manzano had no prescriptions for Xanax, and the drug was later found at Colbert’s residence. Under Louisiana law, individuals can be charged with murder if their actions indirectly contribute to a death during the commission of certain crimes, such as robbery.
