Mid-Michigan May 6 Election Results: Local Proposals and Primaries Take Center Stage
MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The May 6 election in Mid-Michigan featured a variety of local issues, including school bond proposals and city council primaries. As precincts reported their results, key decisions on funding and leadership began to take shape across the region.
In the Flint City Council 3rd Ward primary, candidates Beverly Biggs-Leavy and AC Dumas both secured 165 votes, leading LaShawn Johnson with 162 votes, while Rich Jones trailed with 21 votes. This tight race signals a competitive environment as residents weigh their options for city leadership.
Voter support for local education initiatives was varied. The Essexville-Hampton Schools Bond Proposal has not yet reported results, while neighboring districts showed mixed results. For instance, the Burton Police Operating Millage gained significant support, with 2,075 votes in favor against 759 opposing. Comparatively, the Grand Blanc Schools Sinking Fund Renewal received strong backing as well, with 3,843 votes for and 2,204 against.
Montrose Schools, however, faced challenges, with a narrow margin reported on their Operating Millage: 11 yes votes to 10 no votes from one precinct reporting. Meanwhile, the Bentley Schools Bond Proposal garnered a clear majority with 517 votes in favor.
Community initiatives also garnered attention, such as the Clare-Gladwin RESD CTE Millage Renewal, which reported 2,083 yes votes against 731 no votes. Residents in areas like Fairhaven Township and Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port also showed support for local mosquito abatement and operational funding.
As results continue to emerge from various precincts, local officials and community members await final tallies that will influence the financial and leadership landscape of Mid-Michigan in the months ahead.
