Central Michigan Softball Finishes Season with Milestones Amidst Heartbreaking Loss
AKRON, Ohio – Central Michigan Softball’s Team 47 made history despite a tough exit in the MAC Tournament, marking the end of an era as they graduate four key seniors—Samantha Souva, Madelyn Wallace, Allyssa Hollo, and Maddie Springer. These athletes leave a lasting legacy that extends beyond the statistics.
The Chippewas concluded the season with a commendable 26-25 record, boasting a strong 17-8 in conference play, which secured them the #3 seed in the tournament. However, their quest for glory ended abruptly with a closely contested 6-5 loss to #6 Northern Illinois in the opening game.
The match was a back-and-forth battle, beginning with NIU taking the lead in the second inning. CMU quickly countered, scoring two runs thanks to a clutch two-RBI single from Emma Lotus. The teams exchanged leads, with Rachel Cairo hitting an RBI double to reclaim the advantage for the Chippewas. Yet, NIU responded with a series of home runs that shifted the momentum, ultimately scoring the winning run in the eighth inning.
In the second game of the tournament, CMU struggled offensively but witnessed a historic moment when Carly Sleeman blasted her 17th home run of the season, tying the program’s single-season record.
