Michigan Football Coach Sherrone Moore to Serve Two-Game Suspension Amid Scouting Scandal
Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is set to face a two-game suspension during the 2025 season, part of the school’s self-imposed penalties relating to the Connor Stalions scouting scandal that surfaced in 2023. Moore, who was elevated to head coach following Jim Harbaugh’s departure, allegedly communicated through deleted text messages with Stalions on the same day details of the sign-stealing scheme became public.
The correspondence was later retrieved through “device imaging,” as outlined in a draft of the NCAA’s notice of allegations. While Michigan has already taken steps to address the situation, future sanctions from the NCAA remain a possibility.
Urban Meyer, a former Ohio State head coach, has called for stringent consequences for Moore, emphasizing the severity of lying to the NCAA. Meyer stated, “If you lie as a college football coach to the NCAA, in my personal opinion, you’re finished.” He distinguished between minor violations and significant misconduct, asserting that the ramifications for dishonesty should be severe to deter future infractions.
Stalions, who was suspended in October 2023, resigned from his role shortly thereafter and took up a position as defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford High School in August 2024.
As Michigan continues to navigate the fallout from the scandal, the scrutiny from both the NCAA and prominent figures like Meyer underscores the growing demand for integrity in college athletics.
