Michigan Man Convicted of Firearms Violations
Detroit, MI – A St. Clair Shores man, Chase Farmer, 26, was convicted on federal charges related to possession of machine guns and failure to maintain proper records as a federal firearms licensee. The verdict, delivered after a week-long jury trial presided over by U.S. District Judge Gershwin Drain, was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Farmer, who operated Shall Not Be Infringed LLC, received a firearms dealer license in 2020. Despite lacking an import license, he placed four orders for machine gun conversion devices on a defunct Russian website, utilizing an alias and paying in Russian currency. Prosecutors revealed that he managed to acquire approximately 30 of these devices but could account for only two when ATF agents searched his home and business in 2022.
After an hour of deliberation, the jury found Farmer guilty on all charges. U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. condemned his actions, emphasizing the significant threats posed by machine gun conversion devices, which can transform semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic firearms. “Chase Farmer sought out the ability to deal and manufacture firearms, but he flagrantly ignored his responsibility to follow the law,” Gorgon stated.
Farmer’s sentencing is scheduled for this summer, where he faces a potential maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The case highlights ongoing concerns about gun safety and regulation in the community.
