Spartans on the Road to Michigan Sports Hall of Fame

Several former Michigan State Spartans are being recognized for their extraordinary contributions to sports, having been nominated for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Among the nominees are notable figures from both football and basketball, showcasing a rich legacy of talent and achievement.

Mark Dantonio, the all-time winningest coach in Michigan State football history, led the Spartans to three Big Ten titles and a historic Rose Bowl win in 2013. Under his guidance, the team reached the College Football Playoff in the 2015 season. Dantonio’s accolades include being a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year and recent inductions into the Rose Bowl and College Football Hall of Fame.

Jason Richardson, a luminary in men’s basketball, played a pivotal role in Michigan State’s 2000 championship run and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. His legacy continues through his son, Jase, who is poised to be a top draft pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Judi Brown Clarke, a standout in women’s track and field, is also in contention. An NCAA champion and a silver medalist in the 400-meter hurdles at the 1984 Olympics, Clarke was honored as Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year in 1987.

Johnny Green made his mark in basketball as a two-time All-Big Ten honoree, known for his remarkable rebounding skills, averaging 16.6 rebounds per game. He was drafted by the New York Knicks and became a four-time NBA All-Star.

Football legend Morten Andersen also joins the list as one of MSU’s finest kickers, recognized for his All-American season in 1981 and a storied NFL career as a six-time All-Pro.

Voting for the Hall of Fame nominees ends on May 23. Fans can participate and support their favorites through an official voting link. Follow the Michigan State athletics community for ongoing updates and discussions.
