Smokey Robinson Refutes Sexual Assault Allegations, According to Attorney

An attorney for Motown legend Smokey Robinson has dismissed accusations of sexual assault made by four former housekeepers as false and a money-making scheme against the 85-year-old artist. The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges years of sexual assaults, seeking damages of at least $50 million. Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, condemned the lawsuit as an “ugly method” to exploit Robinson’s celebrity status, criticizing the plaintiffs’ press conference as an attempt to create a media circus.

The women, referred to as Jane Does 1-4, claim they were assaulted at Robinson’s Chatsworth home, lacking the resources to defend themselves due to their vulnerable positions as low-wage workers. One plaintiff alleges she was assaulted at least 23 times from 2014 to 2020, while another states she was assaulted around 20 times during her 12 years of employment starting in 2012. The lawsuit describes disturbing details, including forced entry into his bedroom and manipulation involving his bathroom.

Additionally, the suit claims Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, contributed to a hostile work environment, allegedly using derogatory language towards the employees. Robinson, known for his foundational role in Motown and his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, is represented by Frost, who plans to seek dismissal of the case. He has stated they will respond further in due course, asserting their commitment to defending Robinson against what they deem unfounded allegations.
