Central Michigan Men’s Basketball Welcomes Six New Recruits for 2025 Season

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — In an exciting development for Central Michigan Men’s Basketball, Head Coach Andy Bronkema announced the signing of six talented student-athletes to the program on Wednesday. Will Ashford, Nathan Claerbaut, Jalen Kampen, Nick Mullen, Kayden Nation, and Jaxson Whitaker will join the Chippewas for the 2025 season, enrolling in June.

"This group represents a diverse mix of skills and backgrounds," said Bronkema. "They bring length, shooting ability, physicality, and valuable playing experience. We have a solid foundation to build on, and the most rewarding aspect is their commitment to embracing our culture and vision for success."

The recruits possess impressive stats from their previous schools. Ashford, a 6-5 guard from Aurora, Ill., shines after a strong freshman year at Purdue Northwest, averaging 9.5 points and shooting an impressive 54.7%. Claerbaut, a 7-0 senior center from Zeeland, Mich., comes with experience from Ferris State, averaging 9.6 points and earning GLIAC All-Defensive Team honors.

Kampen, who is 6-4 from Parchment, Mich., is recognized for his senior accolades, earning All-State honors and becoming his school’s all-time leading scorer. Mullen, a versatile 6-10 forward and the defending CCAC Defensive Player of the Year from Chesterton, Ind., joins after a successful tenure at IU-South Bend.

Nation, a 6-7 junior forward from Peoria, Ill., demonstrated promise at Indian Hills Community College, while Whitaker, a 6-4 guard from Muskegon, Mich., holds multiple school records and has been integral to his high school team’s success.

As the Chippewas prepare for the upcoming season, these recruits exemplify a commitment to excellence and a shared goal of bringing success to Central Michigan Basketball.
