University of Akron Lacrosse Team’s Historic Season Ends in NCAA Tournament
EVANSTON, Ill. – The University of Akron lacrosse team’s record-breaking 2025 season concluded on Friday, May 9, with a 17-6 defeat against No. 13 Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
In the match, the Zips showcased their talent with goals from junior Katie Baumer and redshirt senior Noelle Boyd, alongside contributions from senior Jaelyn Clinkscales, sophomore Sienna Hinchcliffe, junior Kellen Fletcher, and senior Graceann Schwab. Each of these players made significant contributions on the field, with Baumer, Clinkscales, and Hinchcliffe each notching assists.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Hannah Sanders anchored the Zips’ efforts, recording a game-high six saves. Senior Bryanne Harner led in ground balls with four, while Baumer excelled in draw controls with six. The Zips also saw notable performances from sophomore Kacey Hopkins and redshirt senior Antonia Trickett, who each caused turnovers during the game.
The matchup marked a bittersweet farewell for several seniors, including Boyd, Clinkscales, Harner, Kylie Harris, Chloe Herrera, Sanders, Schwab, and Trickett, who played their final game in the Akron Blue and White.
Despite the loss, the 2025 season was historic for the Zips, highlighting their growth and potential as a competitive force in collegiate lacrosse. The team and coaching staff will look to build on this season’s accomplishments as they prepare for future challenges.
