Michigan Clinches Series Finale with 3-1 Victory Over Nebraska
Lincoln, NE – The Michigan Wolverines secured a crucial 3-1 victory against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday at Hawks Field, salvaging the final game of their three-game series. With the win, Michigan improved to a record of 32-19 overall and 15-12 in Big Ten play, while Nebraska fell to 26-26 and 13-14 in the conference.
The Wolverines struck first in the second inning when Cole Caruso launched a home run to left field, putting Michigan ahead 1-0. Nebraska responded in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Joshua Overbeek drove in Hogan Helligso with a key single, tying the game at 1-1.
However, Michigan reclaimed the lead in the eighth after Brayden Jefferis successfully bunted for a hit, scoring Keegan O’Hearn. Caruso then added an insurance run in the ninth, hitting his second home run of the day to solidify Michigan’s advantage.
Will Rogers (5-2) earned the win for Michigan, delivering three innings of exceptional relief and allowing just one unearned run. Starter Tate Carey pitched six innings, yielding five hits. Drew Christo (1-2) took the loss for Nebraska after allowing an earned run in 2.2 innings, while Jackson Brockett shined in his final home start, surrendering only one run in 5.1 innings pitched.
Overbeek stood out for Nebraska, going 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a double. As the Cornhuskers prepare for the final weekend of the regular season, they will face Purdue starting Thursday at 5 p.m. With Nebraska sitting in ninth place in the Big Ten standings, they need either a win or some assistance to secure a spot in next week’s 12-team Big Ten Tournament in Omaha.
