Two Men Arrested in Saginaw ATM Theft Case
Saginaw, MI – Two men have been arrested and are facing federal charges in connection with a brazen ATM theft at the United Financial Credit Union that occurred on May 12, 2024. The suspects are identified as Samuel Fobbs Jr. and Johnathan Walker.
Authorities revealed that approximately $88,900 was stolen from the ATM’s internal vaults in the early hours of May 12. Security footage captured the two men, donning masks and gloves, emerging from a tan pickup truck. They attempted to pry open the ATM with crowbars and ultimately dislodged it using a gold chain attached to the truck. They then accessed the internal vaults and fled the scene in another vehicle after loading the stolen cash.
Investigation efforts led police to discover the internal vaults on I-675 shortly after the incident. Authorities also uncovered a pattern linking the ATM thefts to previous incidents in Louisiana and Alabama, where similar tactics were employed.
The key breakthrough in the case came when investigators traced phone records linked to Fobbs and Walker. Notably, Fobbs’ phone was located in the vicinity during the theft, and data showed it had traveled from Houston, Texas, to Saginaw shortly before the crime. Further analysis revealed suspicious CashApp transactions between the two suspects leading up to the theft.
Evidence extracted from Fobbs’ phone included photos and videos taken in a Saginaw hotel room shortly after the crime, displaying large stacks of cash. Both men were federally charged on May 2, 2025, with authorities emphasizing the coordination of multiple law enforcement agencies in the investigation.
The case highlights the complexities of modern crime, where technology plays a critical role in both execution and investigation. As the legal proceedings unfold, law enforcement continues to reinforce efforts against financial crimes in the region.
