Number of Spartan Legends Inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2025

Press Release: Michigan State Athletics Targets Hall of Fame Recognition

Michigan State athletics continues its legacy of excellence, with several icons potentially set to join the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2025. This year’s nominees include both legendary players and coaches who have shaped the university’s sports history.

Leading the charge is Mark Dantonio, the all-time winningest football coach at Michigan State, who has already been inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in recent years. His inclusion on the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame ballot marks another significant achievement for Coach D.

Joining Dantonio is former Spartan kicker Morten Andersen, a three-time All-Big Ten honoree and 1981 College Football All-American, who boasts a remarkable 25-year NFL career. His credentials position him as a strong candidate for induction.

On the basketball side, two outstanding players are also in the spotlight. "Jumpin’" Johnny Green, who led Michigan State to its first Final Four in 1957 and averaged an impressive 17.8 rebounds per game during the 1957-58 season, finds himself a nominee as well. Green’s number 24 is retired at the Breslin Center, making his Hall of Fame candidacy particularly compelling.

Additionally, Jason Richardson, known for his explosive dunks and significant contributions to both Michigan State and the NBA, is on the ballot. His legacy continues through his son Jase, who currently plays for the Spartans.

The ballot also features Judi Brown Clarke, an accomplished women’s track and field athlete, an NCAA Champion, and a three-time All-American who earned an Olympic Silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles.

Voting for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame concludes on May 23rd, and the future looks bright for these Spartans as they seek to add their names to the storied legacy of Michigan State athletics.
