Governor Whitmer Appoints 15 to State Boards; West Michiganders Included
LANSING, Mich. — In a significant move, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed 15 individuals to various state boards and commissions last week, with three of the appointees hailing from West Michigan.
Among the appointments is Jason Grinnell from Grand Rapids, who was reappointed to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. Initially appointed in 2021, Grinnell, an attorney with degrees from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Thomas Cooley Law School, will serve until June 2029. The Tribunal handles tax appeals pertaining to property and business taxes.
Eric Hemenway of Harbor Springs and Laura Ashlee of Okemos were both reappointed to the Michigan Historical Commission. Hemenway serves as the director of archives for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, while Ashlee brings expertise from her previous role at the State Historic Preservation Office. Their new terms will last until 2029.
Additionally, Victoria Policicchio from Birmingham was appointed to the Manufactured Housing Commission to represent mobile home manufacturers, with a term set to conclude in 2028.
Governor Whitmer also reappointed Kenneth Stahl of Brighton and Donald Wood of Ypsilanti to the Residential Builders’ and Maintenance and Alteration Contractors’ Board, both serving until March 2029.
Rebecca Humphries of Lowell was named chair of the Michigan Natural Resources Commission, taking over from Dan Kildee. With extensive experience in conservation, Humphries is tasked with overseeing the regulation of game and sportfish.
These appointments, all approved by the Michigan Senate, are part of the governor’s efforts to strengthen leadership across critical sectors in the state. The appointees will bring their diverse experiences to help address the challenges in their respective areas, ensuring effective governance in Michigan.
