Ohio Dominates Western Michigan in 12-1 Victory
Kalamazoo, MI – The Ohio University baseball team showcased a commanding performance on Friday, May 16, securing a decisive 12-1 victory over Western Michigan at the Kraft Field. With this win, the Bobcats clinched the series triumph, improving their record to 14-36 overall and 9-20 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
The game saw Ohio’s offense explode for 11 hits while limiting the Broncos to just three. Key contributions came from four Bobcats, each recording two hits. Graduate student Trenton Neuer and redshirt sophomore Cam Bryant both went 2-for-2, crossing home plate three times. Sophomore Ben Slanker shone brightly, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs, solidifying his role as a pivotal player in the game.
On the mound, senior Hudson Boncal delivered a stellar performance, pitching seven innings and allowing only one earned run. He struck out six batters, helping maintain Ohio’s lead throughout the contest.
The Bobcats set the tone early, with Slanker launching a two-run homer in the first inning, quickly followed by two additional runs, giving them a 4-0 advantage. The offensive onslaught continued with a pair of sacrifice flies in the second inning and more power in the fourth, featuring Bryant’s homer and Slanker’s second two-run shot.
Though Western Michigan managed to score their sole run in the seventh inning, it was too little, too late. Ohio’s commanding performance enforced a run rule, concluding the game at 12-1.
Looking ahead, the Bobcats will travel back to Western Michigan for a rematch on Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m. ET, as they aim to build on this momentum.
