Indianapolis, Ind. — The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan rowing team had a strong showing on Saturday, May 17, at the Big Ten Championship held at Eagle Creek Park, qualifying for all grand finals on Sunday. The Wolverines consistently placed in the top three across all races, competing fiercely against No. 7 Rutgers.

The first varsity eight (1V8) kicked off the day in a competitive heat, finishing in second place with a time of 6:30.17, trailing Rutgers by just over three seconds. The second varsity eight (2V8) mirrored this performance, securing another second place finish after battling stroke for stroke with Rutgers before ultimately falling behind.

Michigan’s first varsity four (1V4) also finished strong in second, holding onto their position despite Rutgers establishing a lead early. In the second varsity four (2V4) race, the Wolverines once again showcased their tenacity, finishing just under three seconds behind Rutgers amid challenging crosswinds.

The third varsity four (3V4), first novice eight (1N8), and second novice eight (2N8) echoed this performance with second place finishes, solidifying Michigan’s dominance in the day’s heats. Every Michigan boat is now set to compete in the championship finals scheduled for Sunday, May 18, with live coverage available via Big Ten Network from 9 a.m.
