Central Michigan University Student-Athletes Achieve Record Academic Success
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan University (CMU) student-athletes wrapped up the 2024-25 academic year with remarkable achievements, setting a new record for the highest all-time semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.39 for the spring 2025 semester. This milestone marks the 53rd consecutive semester in which CMU’s Athletics Department has seen student-athletes maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Notable accomplishments include the football team reaching its highest-ever semester GPA of 3.23, representing a significant improvement of 0.47 from the previous fall semester. A outstanding 342 student-athletes, or 77% of the total, achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, while 226 students (51%) recorded GPAs of 3.5 or above, and 49 students achieved a perfect 4.0.
Women’s cross country and gymnastics led the charge, both posting the highest team GPA of 3.73 for the spring semester, with gymnastics and cross country also achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.69 for the academic year. Meanwhile, the women’s basketball program celebrated the highest GPA increase of 0.57 from fall to spring.
Amy Folan, CMU’s Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, expressed pride in the student-athletes and the Academic Services department, emphasizing their commitment to fostering an environment where students excel both academically and athletically.
