ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Julia Fliegner, a standout from the University of Michigan women’s tennis team, has earned first-team Academic All-America honors from CSC as of June 3, solidifying her place in program history. She becomes just the second Wolverine to achieve this distinction, following Kari Miller, and is the first U-M student-athlete to be named to the first team this academic year.
Fliegner concluded her successful collegiate career with 113 singles wins, placing her fifth on the program’s all-time list. This season, she set a personal record with 33 singles victories, boasting a remarkable 17-2 performance in dual matches. Notably, she dominated the top of the lineup with a 16-2 record and was instrumental in clinching a 4-0 victory over No. 20 Oklahoma State, propelling Michigan to its first Final Four appearance in history.
In addition to her impressive performance on the court, Fliegner was honored with the Big Ten Medal of Honor, becoming only the third women’s tennis player to receive this prestigious accolade. She concluded the season ranked No. 5 in singles and reached as high as No. 2. Her journey included a semifinal appearance at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship, making her just the second Wolverine to progress this far.
Fliegner was also a consistent presence on the All-Big Ten honor roll for three consecutive seasons and capped her final year by being named the 2025 Big Ten Player of the Year. Under her leadership, Michigan secured three Big Ten championships and tournament titles in the past four years.
Graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the Ross School of Business in May, Fliegner is set to attend law school at the University of Michigan in the fall, continuing her pursuit of excellence both on and off the court.
