Thunder Put on a ‘Blood and Guts’ Show to Even NBA Finals Against Pacers

The Oklahoma City Thunder reached the NBA Finals by showcasing remarkable consistency, losing consecutive games only twice throughout the season. In Game 4, they faced the Indiana Pacers, who threatened to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. However, the Thunder rallied late to win 111-104 and equalize the series at 2-2.

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault praised the team’s grit in a game where the Pacers, known for their clutch performance, were outscored by 14 points in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma City star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, after a challenging start, scored 35 points, including 15 of the final 16 points for his team in the closing minutes. Jalen Williams contributed 27 points, while Chet Holmgren, despite injuries, had a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Despite struggling with 3-point shooting, making only three—their lowest of the season—Oklahoma City excelled at the free-throw line, where they converted nine more shots than the Pacers. Indiana’s shooting faltered during critical moments, managing only five points in the last four minutes and missing all eight attempted 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Ahead of Game 4, Oklahoma City adjusted their starting lineup, bringing in center Isaiah Hartenstein to complement Holmgren. Gilgeous-Alexander’s playtime was limited early on to keep him fresh. Although the team lagged behind for most of the game, they turned things around when Gilgeous-Alexander finally broke free from individual defensive pressure. The Thunder’s victory came as a disappointment to Pacers coach Rick Carlisle but left the series open as they look toward Game 5.
