Michigan Attorney General Sues Wixom Automotive Suppliers for Environmental Violations
Wixom, MI – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has initiated legal action against two automotive suppliers, Tribar Technologies Inc. and Adept Plastic Finishing Inc., alleging the continued release of harmful chemicals into the Huron River despite prior violation notices. The lawsuit claims that even after the shutdown of the Wixom facilities in April—following their sale—hazardous stormwater contamination persists.
Notably, Tribar faced federal consequences earlier this year for discharging 10,000 gallons of inadequately treated wastewater into local sewer systems, which resulted in a $200,000 fine and probation. Although Tribar installed PFAS filtration systems in 2018, the state’s lawsuit contends these measures were insufficient to prevent chemical runoff into the Huron River. Since 2018, Tribar has accumulated four violation notices from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
“Our environmental laws are designed to safeguard our air and water from toxic substances,” stated Attorney General Nessel. She emphasized that her office is committed to holding companies accountable for any breaches of these protections.
To date, neither Tribar nor Adept Plastic Finishing has commented on the lawsuit. The actions taken by the Attorney General underscore the state’s determination to combat environmental violations and ensure compliance among businesses operating within Michigan.
As the case progresses, it signals a broader commitment to environmental protection and the expectation for industrial accountability in safeguarding local ecosystems.
